Average Joe from the 2008 campaign is back. Joe “The Plumber” Sam Wurzelbacher told reporters John McCain and his campaign for President had ruined his life. While hilarious and irrelevant this is not the story; something more important should be learned from this story.
Average Joe proclaimed this about The President:
"I think his ideology is un-American, but he’s one of the more honest politicians. At least he told us what he wanted to do."
I might have just glanced over this story if some other stories were not in also in the news that showed whats wrong with democracy in America.
I have experienced this regularly, as I am always engaging people. But is gets more personnel when your family is involved. My great Uncle Joe has been manipulated into think I am un-American. We were discussing why companies are not making things in America. We were both asking the right questions. My grandfather worked in a cannery was a union member with a pension. We both wondered why people cannot find jobs like this. My uncle had not answer but seemed ANGRY. Angry that he is seeing America change into something he is not familiar with. I was trying to put my finger on it, but could not. I couldn't because he did not know. Our discussion turned into immigration policy. I tried to explain to him that corporations want illegals in the country to drive down wages for ALL workers. Putting them on an easier pathway to citizenship protects Americans workers and eliminates the cheap illegal work done by illegal immigrants. But Average Uncle Joe could not understand this. He seemed ANGRY that I wanted to give opportunities to people not from America, people with brown skin! He quickly proclaimed me UN-AMERICAN!
The propaganda machine has been proven to change the hearts and minds of Americans to not just vote against their own interest but makes them hate fellow citizens which do not share their view. The corporations who control the Republican party have divided and conquered the American public. They have us screaming at each other instead of having conversations about America and how corporate dominance has changed America. But we must continue the conversation, and we might penetrate the propaganda machine and the grip it has on the mids of Americams. We must explain that the President has CUT your taxes! But when 12% of the public knows the truth about taxes and 25% think that exact opposite the propaganda machine IS WORKING! We can only continue the conversation and assert ourselves when appropriate.
